This session is for children aged 1-4, but do keep it really short and simple for under 2’s.
Make sure you read the full session before you start, and check out these practical tips to get the most out of your time together.
We pray you’ll have a wonderful, fun time with your little ones!
Let’s find out more about Holy Spirit!
Today’s aim: To know that Holy Spirit protects us. He gives us armour to put on!
Make it special: Why not start your time off by crouching down and jumping up shouting ‘Holy Spirit is with us! Holy Spirit loves us. Holy Spirit we love you!’
INTRO: (7 MIN)
Here’s Sarah with an introduction and story!

UNPACK THE STORY
Paul and Silas loved God. They told lots of people about him. Even though they ended up in prison for doing this (boo) they had their armour: the belt of truth that God was with them, Shield of faith that he would look after them, Good news shoes to tell others, sword of spirit to speak God’s words!
You could share any testimony you have of knowing God’s protection or when you had your armour on. Your child just needs to grasp the beginning of these concepts as we all keep growing in this throughout our lives: God protects us. He gives us special clothes to put on.
You can say this first: WHO HAS THEIR ARMOUR ON?
Help your child to respond: I DO!
Keep using it with different voices: squeaky, fast, slow, whispers or shouts …
WORSHIP (5-8 MINS)
Let’s be like Paul and Silas and praise God too!
You could use these songs or any of your own favourites
Hit play to hear the songs in the playlist! If you click on the ‘cc’ button (where available) you can see the subtitles to help with the lyrics – this is not always accurate but can help!
This version of ‘God Suit On’ starts with a tutorial from Susie! If you want to skip straight to the song, start at 5:19!
FUN ACTIVITIES: (5-10 MINS)
Play: Use dressing-up or blankets, or junk modelling (cardboard boxes, loo rolls) to make your own armour! Make it fun and silly and chat about each one as you put them on.
Create: Using the pdf template, cut out some or all of the armour of God, depending on the age of your child. Help them to choose pieces to stick on to one of the figures on the template and decorate.
Colour: Armour or God or Paul and Silas in prison.
Resources: pdf template of activities, scissors, colouring pens, dressing up, blankets, junk modelling, sellotape
Watch: The Armour of God for Toddlers!
PRAYER TIME IDEAS
SHOUT OUT: WHO HAS THEIR ARMOUR ON? I DO!
Holy Spirit wants us to have our armour on everyday – let’s pray it on! Make up a fun prayer or chant about each piece of the armour as you pretend to put them on.
- I’ve got my helmet on: I am saved by God
- My breastplate: I have Jesus’ goodness
- My belt: I have God’s true words
- My good news shoes: I have God’s peace
- My shield: I can trust God all the time
- My sword of the Spirit: I can speak God’s words
