Before you get started, here’s Pecky!
MARK THE MOMENT
Start off your time together in a special way; You could do your favourite Superhero pose and say ‘I am a hero to God!’ or tell someone else that they are a hero.
WORSHIP (8-10 MINS)
Remember Father God is here with us right now! Have fun jumping and dancing and letting your kids show you the actions!
We’ve got Susie’s tutorial for God Suit On again – if you know the actions by now, skip straight to the song at 5:19!
INTRO (11 MINS)
EXPLORE THE EPIC STORY OF JOSHUA (5 MINS)
Watch the story below or read it together!
You could read it in a children’s Bible, for example:
- Lion First Bible, p138
- Jesus Story book Bible, p108
Or check it out these passages in the Bible: Jericho falls
UNPACK: When I meet with God I am changed (5 mins)
There’s so much to Joshua’s story, but he started off knowing he was chosen and that God was always with him. God told him to be strong and courageous! He needed that courage to lead all those people and follow God’s plans to give them a new land!
Share with you child times when you have learnt any of these things too:
That you’re a leader… or that God is with you… or that he gives you strength and courage…
Does your child have any stories too?
Help your child to consider what it means to be a leader, with others following us. We can be a leader in so many things: in love, in kindness, in ideas and problem-solving, in hope, in joy, in courage, in a skill or talent and so much more…
Continue your TIMELINE OF WONDER: Here’s Joshua to add to your timeline! Can you pop him in the correct place? Have you added anything else on too? We’d love to see a photo of your timeline so far!
Hero Ladder: Use the template or create your own ladder with straws, sticks or strips of card. Put yourself on the ladder in the middle – you could use the circles/mini figures from the template or draw yourself on. Then consider who is your hero and draw/stick them above you and also who may be looking up to you as their hero, and draw/stick them below you. You can add on as many people as you like!
Have fun being creative as you think about and thank God for these important people in your life.
Joshua Activities: Do a maze, some colouring or another activity on Josh’s awesome life from the templates. Or create your own mini poster of Joshua 1:9.
Resources: PDF templates, scissors, pens, stickers, glue, string
Prayer Ideas: (5-10 mins)
- Adventure Time (use your imagination for good!): Joshua got strength and courage from being with God many times: he even hung out in the tent of meeting in God’s presence (check out Exodus 33:11). Why not make a ‘tent’ to lie in for an Adventure Time? Use pop-up tents or blankets over tables or airers or simply snuggle up under one. Get comfy and invite Holy Sprit to be with you and imagine being at the front door of Daddy God’s tent or house! What can you see, or hear? Do you go in? What is God doing… saying… showing you… Hear him say you are his hero, he is proud of you, he is with you, he will give you courage! Spend time with him. Keep it light and fun and short for little ones, but be expectant that God is with you! Share what you saw, heard or felt!
- Prayer Pebbles: You could make it fun for younger ones by hiding some around the room to find or by forgetting what they are for or what they mean… Encourage each person to find/choose a prayer pebble to help them to pray, or pass the same one round the family. Help your younger child to say a simple prayer for others, challenge your older child to pray from their heart and thoughts, what is important to them today?
- Speak truths over each other such as You are a leader… You are important… People will follow you… God is always with you and more!
TODAY’S GAME CHANGING MOMENT
