Today we’re going to confess the Apostle’s Creed together – something Christians have been doing since at least the 4th century!
Why not imagine the saints throughout the ages, stood with you as you speak the words of creed?
TODAY’S PSALM: Psalm 29
THE APOSTLE’S CREED:
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again;
he ascended into heaven,
he is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting.
Amen.* here, “catholic” means the worldwide church, not the denomination!
TODAY’S BIBLE PASSAGE: 1 Corinthians 15:1-2
Now, brothers and sisters, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.1 Corinthians 15:1-2 (NIV)
TODAY’S POINTS FOR PRAYER:
- How firmly do you hold to the truth of what you believe? Is it something you can take your stand in and on? Ask God to strengthen your foundations in him – and consider some practical ways* of how you can remind yourself of the good news you believe!
- Let’s ask God for this gospel news to spread to our friends, family, neighbours and colleagues – that they would come to know the amazing truth of who Jesus is and what he’s done! Ask how you’re meant to play your part in this today!,
*for example, would regularly praying through the creed be a good way to realign your thinking with the truth?
