This session is for children aged 1-4, but do keep it really short and simple for under 2’s.
Make sure you read the full session before you start, and check out these practical tips to get the most out of your time together.
We pray you’ll have a wonderful, fun time with your little ones!
Today we are exploring more about Christmas!
Our aim is to learn that Jesus’ birth was so special that God put a star in the sky to tell everyone!
Make it special:
Do star jumps to get ready to worship together!
WORSHIP: (6 MINS) Let’s celebrate Jesus!
You could use these songs or any of your own favourites:
INTRO (9 MIN)
EXPLORE A STORY (3.5 MINS)
Watch: Jesus and the Wise Men
Or choose a story bible:
Candle Bible for Toddlers p225 (very short)
Lion First Bible p302
Jesus Calling Bible p148
QUICK UNPACK (2 MINS)
God put a special star in the sky for Jesus’ birth, because he is so important and special. WOW!
The wise men were friends with God and they’d been waiting for a sign that Jesus would be born. They travelled a long long way, following the star to find Jesus.
They loved and worshipped him when they found him!
Say this together: WHO IS CHRISTMAS ABOUT? JESUS!
Keep saying it with different voices; fast, slow, high, low…
FUN ACTIVITIES (5-10 MINS)
Follow the star! Make a big star. Take it in turns to be the star and everyone else to be the wise men following it to where Jesus is! Wise Men could dress up with blankets as robes and simple paper crowns.
Sensory play: Cut up lots of star shapes from paper and card (there’s a template on the pdf attachment) and play with them with any natural objects you may have such as pine cones, sticks and leaves, or old wrapping paper, Christmas cards and safe baubles/tinsel.
Have fun exploring the textures together, hide and find the stars and chat simply with your child about the stars in the sky and the special star for Jesus!
Sing: ‘Twinkle Twinkle Little Star’
Make a star glitter bottle this week!
You’ll need a small plastic bottle, half fill with warm water, add any glitter glue, star sequins and glitter you may have. Give it a good shake to mix the glitter glue in well. Top up with water and superglue the lid shut.
Enjoy looking for the stars, watching the swirling glitter and wondering together!
Star mobile: cut out some of the different sized stars from the template and decorate with any pens, glitter, shiny paper you may have. Either add onto your tree or string together with ribbon and hang down from a curtain rail or stick around the house and play hunt the star…
Activity sheets of the bible story

PRAYER TIME (2 MINS)
- SHOUT OUT: WHO IS CHRISTMAS ABOUT? JESUS! Be thankful for Jesus, the special baby who grew up to be our friend and to love us and save us!
- Try a star Adventure time. Snuggle up with your child and invite Holy Spirit to be with you.
- Say slowly with pauses:
- ‘Let’s have an Adventure with Daddy God. He loves us so much. He loves to be with us. Let’s imagine being with Daddy God… He made all the stars in the sky. He wants to show them to you, can you see them all – the big ones… the little ones… ones nearby and ones far, far away. Can you see the very bright one? It is the special star that God put in the sky for Jesus’ birth! WOW!… Thank you God for showing us your stars. Thank you that you love us so much you sent Jesus to come to earth.’
Try a sharing time: Tell me about the stars? What did you see… or hear… or feel? Tell me about your Adventure Time. Share what you experienced too. Keep it light and fun and celebrate Daddy God being with you!
We’d love to hear from you!
Show us your glitter bottles or stars. What’s your favourite thing about Christmas?
NEXT WEEK IS OUR IN PERSON GATHERING OR YOU CAN WATCH THE STREAM TOGETHER.
