City Groups are small groups meeting in homes across Manchester, running 3 times per year for 6-8 weeks. They’re focussed on equipping us to live the normal Christian life: one that is full of God-encounters, is empowered by the Holy Spirit and one that reaches into the lives of those around us!

Our next run of City Groups kicks off in May 2020 – this time all our groups will be online, connecting over Zoom.

While City Groups will look a little different in lockdown, we are still believe they are going to be brilliant spaces to help each of us in our journeys of becoming like Jesus and living for him.

We have the choice to engage with 8 brilliant resources and be part of online Zoom groups to discuss and share what you are discovering. We have 4 books, 3 podcast series and an online theology course which give a great variety of topics, depths and ways to learn that will suit you whether you are at.

  • All Things New: Joining God’s story of re-creation, Pete Hughes
Covering Genesis to Revelation, this book looks at the heart of God and his relentless passion to redeem lives, heal the nations, rewire the culture and begin renewal to all creation.
  • A Creative Minority: Influencing culture through redemptive participation, Jon Tyson and Heather Grizzle
Looking to highlight our call to be a radical alternative in the post-modern, post Christian times we live in. We are not supposed to control or abandon the work but love it to life through redemptive participation.
  • The Return of the Prodigal Son: A story of homecoming, Henri Nouwen
Nouwen shares his journey with the parable of the lost son and how a painting by Rembrandt inspired his spiritual adventure. He looks at the key moments in the story and lays out the challenge that we all need to love as the father and allow ourselves to be loved by the son.

  • The Bible Project – Parables series
Jesus of Nazareth was a master storyteller, and many of his most well-known teachings were told as parables. But these stories were designed to do much more than simply “teach.” Jesus said the parables were designed to both reveal and conceal his message about the arrival of God’s Kingdom.
  • Frequentsee – Conversations with Julian and Katia Adams.
Covering a wide range of topics from finding your calling, gender equality, the role of prophets and reimagining the world around us – our friends Julian & Katia Adams discuss spirituality and culture.
  • Church of the City, New York – This Must Be Stronger Than That Series (Jon Tyson and Suzy Silk).
A series of podcasts, taken from talks at Church of the City in New York, looking at key elements where we need to stand firm and avoid settling for compromise where the kingdom culture looks markedly different to culture around us.

  • Spiritually Formed – six weeks looking at discipleship foundations, from Westminster Theological Centre.
